Sounders vs. Fire Match: Bring on the clowns!
July 27, 2009 3:06pm
This weekend, Kristi, Meredith and I staffed the PEMCO photo booth and watched Seafair clowns take Qwest Field by storm bringing laughter, color, and a dash of mischievousness to fans before the afternoon match against the Chicago Fire.
After attending 18 Sounders matches this season, folks at the PEMCO booth have become accustomed to seeing all sorts of crazy things at Sounders games. From fans in gorilla suits to groups shouting wild Sounders chants, we're always ready for an exciting time. This, though, was the first time we were greeted by more than 20 costume-clad clowns ready to meet fans and cheer on the Sounders.
The clowns generously posed with fans as they stopped by the PEMCO booth to get their "'I Know I Am, I'm Sure I Am' Sounders FC Fan" souvenir photos snapped. One large clown in a red polka-dot dress made balloon animals for an excited group of kids and explained that he loves seeing PEMCO at the Seafair activities around Seattle. "It seems like every parade we go to or event that we clown around at, we stop by to see the friendly people at the PEMCO booth – you guys are the best!" he exclaimed.
One little fan we met was Gigi, a three-month old Sounders fan who proudly sported a green headband to show off her Sounders spirit. "This is her first soccer game," her mom explained. "And she's already a Sounders fan for life! All the energy and excitement out here is contagious – I've never seen her so alert!"
Though the game ended in a draw, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. From the lively group Seafair clowns to Gigi, "the littlest fan," the community came together to support the Sounders for another great game.
Be sure to stop by the PEMCO booth next week when the Sounders take on FC Barcelona August 5.
